What’s not to love about earth-friendly line Ecotots? Every piece, from beds to art easels to play tables, are constructed of formaldehyde-free, FSC Certified, environmentally-friendly real wood and featuring our durable, 100pct non-toxic water-based finish. Plus, they all have a patented, no tools assembly method. Woohoo!

We like the smooth lines and modern feel that balanced with a sort of chunky, whimsical feel (translation: your kid will probably like it as much as you do.) Bonus: Ecotot is a member of the Sustainable Furniture Council and all pieces have a lifetime construction guarantee. Our faves are the sideboard storage unit and book case. How about yours? Check out the full range of Ecotots pieces for more.

There are the kinds of toys that can be tossed in a bin, stacked in a corner. Stuffed animals, Magnadoodles, puppets: It’s these types of things that are a little more flexible in storage a clean-up department. Then there are the books, games, and puzzles that need shelving or bookcases. That’s why we love Guidecraft.

The kids’ furniture company offers all sorts of products, but we particularly like the brand’s toy and book storage options. They offer a wide range of colors and themes (including lots of boy-friendly sports themes), as well as neutrals that would work in any room in the house.

The choices are sturdy and well-built–and equally imaginative and creative. The book cases that look like doll houses are just as ideal as the well-designed, smart front-book display cases. They can take the overwhelming plethora of toys and somehow turn them all into a neat, organized collection of playthings. Just for your kids to pull off the shelves all over again. But, hey, that what they’re there for, right?

Here’s something awful about my neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York: It’s a mosquito trap in the summer. They are everywhere. You’d think an urban area wouldn’t have to worry, but I get mosquito-repellent crazy as soon as it gets warm. I’m constantly checking the screens and leaving hall lights on to keep them out (or away from us if they do somehow get in). I was even as the point of applying natural bug repellent on my toddler daughter. Then, the bug-repellent gods smiled upon me. They brought me the Off! Clip-On Mosquito Repellant.

<img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-791" title="Off!
The small device expels an odorless chemical via a small fan to keep those bogs away. And it works. The deluxe kit comes with the device, batteries, and four refills for $25. Each refill should last 12 continuous hours or up to two weeks of intermittent use. It’s not that pricey to begin with, but considering you could drop it in the middle of the patio table and several people could benefit from it, it’s totally worth the money.

Do you remember those first few days of summer vacation when you were little? Those mornings when you were so happy you didn’t have to get up and get ready for school–that you could stay in bed and sleep in? Those were the best. That why we love the idea of giving her a little summer-vacation present: a lovely set of pretty sheets. This Simply Shabby Chic True Blue Stripe Sheet Set is ideal.

We are in love with the Simply Shabby Chic collection. Everything from sheets and bedskirts to bookcases and comforters. The 100% cotton, 250 thread-count sheets are cozy-soft–but can withstand multiple washings. The light stripe print isn’t overpowering and the bright but subdued color adds a dose of cheer. They’re the kind of patterns that can take her into her teens–no baby themes here! And at a reasonable $39.99 for the set, you’ll get your money’s worth. Bonus: They’ll work equally well in a guest bedroom and will work with almost any decor.

Maybe it’s our fascination with the Wild West. Maybe it’s that we really need a ranch vacation. Whatever the reason, we’re currently obsessed with the rough-and tumble Western horse trend. We’ve found it on everything from shorts and rompers to the end all be all: the Mustang bed. What a perfect bed for either a boy or a girl. Add calico bedding for a boy (red or blue would work) or a soft pink for a girl’s room. Absolute perfection.

Sure, Dora is great. But do you really want her splashed all over everything? There is a time and a place for “the Explorer,” and we happen to think the bedroom is not one of those places. We like to think of a girl’s bedroom as a quiet, serene space. Which is why we immediately think of Serena & Lily when our friends ask for decorating tips.

Serena & Lily Scallop Queen Sheet Set

Serena & Lily Penny Dot Sheet Set

The design aesthetics are to die for–strikingly adult patterns in soft color palettes–that we wish we’d had as kids. And as expected, the thread counts are way up there, the quality is top of the line. These versatile sets even pinch-hit as guest room bedding if last-minute guests come calling.

Serena & Lily Mosiac Sheet Set

We can see bedding sets like these as the kind that grow with your little girl, stretching into teenage territory. Because Dora’s just a phase…hopefully.

When we were researching high chair, I know we wanted one that pulled up to the table, one that our daughter could use from 6 months to 6 years. Tall order. And we found the perfect one: The Stokke Tripp Trapp.

Made of high-quality wood, the seat and foot rest are adjustable to several heights. So it easily goes from traditional high chair (with an additional rail to keep baby secure) to a booster. And the colors? All sorts of fabulous options, from a natural birch to a chili pepper red to (our personal fave) a light dove gray. Add on a patterned seat cushion, and voila: customized.

There has been a long-running debate about the tray highchair versus the pull-up-to-the-table version. We have to say, our vote is in the pull-up style. It truly does make mealtime an inclusive event, even if the only contribution your 13-month-old can make is to spill his peas and poke you with his spoon.

If you, like us, are planning a summer vacation with a toddler in tow, you know the sleep dilemma I speak of. We moved our daughter from a crib to a bed a few months ago, so she’s pretty used to climbing in and out on her own. But what to take to a hotel or to the the grandparents’ homes? Those smart (and agile) little kids will likely climb out of a pack n’ play if tested, so we need some next-level. Enter toddler travel beds.

Turns out, there are loads of options. From tent-like constructions (think of the camping out games you can promote!) to cozy cots (many daycares use similar fold-up beds), to inflatables complete with side bumpers, these options will suit all sorts of sleepers.

Depending on how you’re traveling and your destination, each offers pros and cons. That cot looks almost perfect, but not an option for flying (the tent folds up like a dream, though). But the cot would stash nicely at the bottom of the trunk, should you be traveling via car. And the inflatable version–with the bumpers? Perfect replacement for siderails.

So no matter where you’re headed this summer, you can cross at one kid-transport dilemma off your list. Happy trails!

There’s something about Dwell Studio. It’s as if they’ve ransacked my brain for the best children’s home design pieces–but made them even better. Each time I flip through their catalogs or click through their products online, I can’t help but say, “I want that!”

These cheerful, modern accents look great in a boy’s room.

The perfect way to add a spark to dull or small bathrooms is with a cheery Dwell Studio shower curtain.

No need to hide it away: This toy-storage bin is pretty enough to keep in the living room.

So far, the plan’s working. Dwell’s sweet but cool prints work in every room in the house. The graphic patterns strike just the right balance of parent and kid aesthetics. Check out all their fab baby/toddler options, or pop over to Pronto Home for dining room and bedroom possibilities.

Sure, a body of water--no matter how small--can be enough to keep a kid entertained for a decent amount of time (puddle jumping, anyone?). But add a few toys, and you've tripled the fun. A decent arsenal of bath toys will keep everyone happy.

Sure, a body of water–no matter how small–can be enough to keep a kid entertained for a decent amount of time (puddle jumping, anyone?). But add a few toys, and you’ve tripled the fun. A decent arsenal of bath toys will keep everyone happy.

There are PVC and BPA-free options, like this set from Boon–which will work with a wide range of ages.

Who can resist a nautical-themed Mr. Potato Head? think of all the parts that can be washed and scrubbed…

The floating 3D My Spaceship is bathtime heaven. Once the foam pieces are wet, they stick together. Time to pile them all on!

One word of advice: Non-squirters. The squirty bath toys are fun, but they tend to hold water–no matter how well you maintain them–which then aids in interior mold growth. Yuck.
